A Beginner & a Pro Dive Into Coaching & Accountability

February 22, 2023

Have you ever felt totally overwhelmed by the world of fitness? Don’t worry—you’re not alone, and that’s exactly why Nacho Fitness Coach exists.

Hosted by two friends at very different stages of their fitness journeys, this podcast delivers real conversations about exercise, coaching, accountability, and the chaos (and comedy) of trying to “get fit” in real life.

Whether you're just getting started or have been lifting for years, there's something here for you.

A Beginner and an Expert Walk Into a Gym...

Caleigh is brand new to the fitness scene. She's tried to run a 5K, recently discovered protein shakes, and owns a single set of 5-pound dumbbells. She brings honesty, curiosity, and all the questions new exercisers want to ask but don’t.

Sarah, on the other hand, is the coach. With years of experience training clients, racewalking marathons, and running online programs, she shares expert insights on everything from strength training to nutrition—while keeping it funny and relatable.

Together? They’re not just informative—they’re entertaining.

🎯 Why Accountability Matters (Even for Coaches!)

“You’re a fitness coach... and you still need a coach?”
Yep. Even experts need support.

In this episode, Sarah opens up about her own journey with hiring a coach. She shares how having someone else to check in with helps her stick to her training—especially for the stuff she dislikes: cardio, core work, and dialing in her nutrition.

For Caleigh, it's all about the checklist. A program on her smartwatch helped her stay consistent because it held her accountable—even if it was just a calendar that knew when she skipped a day.

No matter where you are in your health journey, one thing’s clear: having structure and support makes a difference.

🤔 Should You Hire a Fitness Coach?

If you’ve ever wondered:

  • Do I need a personal trainer or just an app?
  • What does a customized fitness program even look like?
  • How do I find a coach I can actually trust?

This episode breaks it down. The key? Find the right fit for where you are right now. Sarah explains that what works for someone prepping for a fitness competition won’t be the same as what works for someone just trying to feel better or build healthy habits.

💸 Sticker Shock Is Real (But So Is Value)

Caleigh almost pulled the trigger on hiring a coach—until the price nearly doubled after New Year’s. It was a reality check, and an important reminder that timing, budget, and mindset all matter when choosing a program.

Sometimes you’re ready to commit—and sometimes you realize you need to take a few more steps first. That’s okay.

🎧 Listen In to Laugh, Learn, and Level Up

Let’s be honest— dry needling has become one of the hottest trends in recovery and pain relief. But here’s the real question: 👉 Is it actually fixing the issue… or just poking at the symptoms? 💉 What Is Dry Needling (Really)? Dry needling is a technique used to relieve muscle tightness and trigger points by inserting thin needles directly into the muscle. It’s often praised for: Reducing pain quickly Improving mobility Releasing muscle tension Sounds like a magic fix, right? Not so fast. ⚠️ The Problem: Relief vs. Real Results Here’s where things get interesting. Dry needling can absolutely make you feel better —but that doesn’t always mean it’s solving the root cause of your pain. 👉 Think of it like this: It’s great at turning off the alarm, but not always great at fixing why the alarm went off in the first place. 🧠 Are You Treating the Symptom… or the Cause? Most muscle pain doesn’t just “happen.” It’s usually caused by: Poor movement patterns Muscle imbalances Weakness or instability Overuse without proper recovery If those aren’t addressed, the pain will likely come back—no matter how many needles you use. 🔄 When Dry Needling Actually Helps To be clear—dry needling isn’t useless. It can be incredibly effective when used as part of a bigger plan that includes: ✔ Strength training ✔ Mobility work ✔ Proper recovery strategies ✔ Movement correction 👉 In other words, it should support your progress—not replace it. 🚫 The Denial Trap Here’s the hard truth: It’s easy to rely on quick fixes because they’re convenient. But long-term results require addressing the habits and patterns causing the issue. So ask yourself: 👉 Am I fixing the problem—or avoiding it? ✅ The Bottom Line Dry needling can be a helpful tool—but it’s not the whole solution. If you want lasting results: Focus on movement quality Build strength where you’re weak Stay consistent with your routine 👉 Because real progress doesn’t come from shortcuts—it comes from strategy.
