The Fitness Challenge You’ll Actually Want to Stick With

August 30, 2023

e’re back and scheming up some fitness mischief for Nacho Fitness Coach Season 2! If you’ve ever gotten PTSD from a treadmill or been personally victimized by step challenges, you're in good company. In this episode, Caleigh and Sara revisit the wild ride that was the Season 1 challenge (thank you, Kardashians), chat about battling humidity on incline walks, and explore a new no-nonsense challenge from fitness guru Tom Venuto.

Let’s just say… sweat happens. A lot.

From Kardashian Obsession to Incline Confessions

Remember Season 1’s challenge? Yep, the one where we voluntarily did the Kardashian 12-3-30 treadmill workout. Sara’s still walking tall (and steep), while Caleigh... well, she’s evaluating treadmill usage based on hair-washing schedules. Relatable.

Sara’s still occasionally conquering the incline beast, even though it now comes with a complimentary sweat-fest thanks to summer humidity. We're talking dripping tank tops, people.

Step Challenge Shenanigans

The duo dives into their current Stridekick step challenge—because who doesn’t love a little passive-aggressive step-count competition?

  • Sara: syncing her Android with Google Fit, Samsung Health, and possibly sending smoke signals just to make it count.
  • Caleigh: ran a 5K for fun (?!), walked all over town, and tallied 18,000 steps in a day. A year ago, she wouldn’t have done any of that. Growth, baby.

But real talk—desk jobs make hitting 10,000 steps a challenge. Remember when workplace fitness meant a free Fitbit and a guilt trip?

Treadmill Desks: The Myth, The Legend

Sara shares her attempt at becoming a treadmill-desk queen. Spoiler: it didn’t go well. She tried. Her dad even built her a custom desk. But between the bobbing and the slow speed required to not fall off, it wasn’t exactly the productivity boost she imagined.

Moral of the story? Maybe just walk... or maybe just work. Multitasking ain't always it.

Introducing: The “Just Say No” Fitness Challenge

Enter Tom Venuto—fitness author, Instagram inspo, and creator of the “Just Say No” Fitness Challenge. Sara’s intrigued. Caleigh’s on board if it means saying no to effort. Win-win.

Here’s the gist: it’s not about doing more, it’s about refusing the nonsense. Tom’s challenge includes 18 things to ditch. Here are a few of our faves:

1. 🚫 No Fat-Burner Supplements

Waste of money. Sweating it out naturally works just fine, thanks.

2. 🚫 No Detox or Cleanse Programs

Hot take: you already have a detox organ. It’s called your liver.

3. 🚫 No Banning Entire Food Groups

Looking at you, "no carb" people. Unless you’re medically restricted (hi lactose intolerance!), food is not the enemy. Cheese is love. Cheese is life.

4. 🚫 No Quick Fix Diets

We’re anti-fad and proud of it. Real health takes time, not 7 days and a questionable tea.

Sara and Caleigh are both loving this no-nonsense, sustainable approach. Stay tuned as they consider it for the Season 2 official challenge.

🎯 Quick Recap: What We Learned in This Episode

  • Kardashian-inspired treadmill workouts = effective and traumatizing.
  • Humidity + incline = next-level sweat (prepare your laundry schedule).
  • Stridekick step challenges bring out everyone’s competitive side—even with tech struggles.
  • Desk jobs make fitness tough, but walking after work does make a difference.
  • Treadmill desks sound better than they feel (unless you like bobbing while typing).
  • Tom Venuto’s “Just Say No Challenge” might be Season 2’s winner. Highlights include:
  • No to fat-burners, detoxes, food bans, and quick-fix diets.
  • Yes to sustainable, balanced fitness and nutrition.
